Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rheinische Philharmonie appoint Garry Walker
Jack Liebeck

"Garry Walker very clearly believes that access to good music is as important as a good education or health system for the people in their city and its region. This is so much part of the philosophy of our orchestra."
 –  Günter Müller-Rogalla, Director of the Rheinische Philharmonie

Scottish conductor Garry Walker has recently been appointed Artistic Director of Conducting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland  – the country's leading music school  – following a two year stint as visiting professor. Walker noted:

I look forward to further developing the conducting program at RCS and seeing the positive impact our students have in music both here in Scotland and internationally.

The appointment follows the November announcement that Walker has been named Chief Conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, effective September 2017.

Born and educated in Edinburgh, Walker was named one of the "10 Brightest New Stars" by BBC Music Magazine early in his career. In addition to his associations with RCS and the Rheinische Philharmonie, he has held the position of Guest Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Conductor of Paragon Ensemble and Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
