The Seattle Symphony is pleased to announce the extension of Thomas Dausgaard’s appointment as its Principal Guest Conductor for an additional three years.  Dausgaard is currently in the second year of his three-year contract, which concludes at the end of the 2016–2017 season. The new contract will be effective starting from the 2017–2018 season through the end of the 2019–2020 season.

“This is wonderful news that we can continue our collaboration with our great friend and colleague Thomas Dausgaard,” said Music Director Ludovic Morlot. “Thomas is an outstanding musician who brings such a beautiful range of music, great performances and inspiring ideas that are being embraced by our orchestra with extraordinary enthusiasm.”

Thomas Dausgaard will return to Seattle next week to lead performances of Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (“Transfigured Night”), Op. 4 for string orchestra on the Delta Air Lines Masterworks Season. Click here to watch a video of Dausgaard as he discusses this piece. The concerts will also include Haydn’s Symphony No. 88 in G major as well as Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488 featuring Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg.

ABOUT THOMAS DAUSGAARD

Thomas Dausgaard is Chief Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Seattle Symphony, Chief Conductor Designate of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Honorary Conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana (ORT) and Honorary Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, having previously served as its Principal Conductor from 2004–2011. He is renowned for his creativity and innovation in programming, the excitement of his live performances, and his extensive catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings.

He has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including in Europe the Munich Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France; in North America, The Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Washington National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, Toronto Symphony and the Montreal Symphony; and in Asia and Australia the New Japan Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies. Future recording plans include a Brahms cycle for BIS, and a disc for Da Capo of the works of Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Thomas Dausgaard has been awarded the Cross of Chivalry by the Queen of Denmark, and elected to the Royal Academy of Music in Sweden. Currently he lives in Denmark with his family.
