JUST ANNOUNCED: Juho Pohjonen Steps in at Baltimore Symphony
J. Henry Fair

The Baltimore Symphony has just announced that Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen will step in to make his debut with the orchestra in 3 weeks on May 4 at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, performing Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major under the direction of Markus Stenz. A second performance is slated for May 7 at the Music Center at Strathmore.

Following recent debuts with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Grant Park Music Festival and Vancouver Symphony, Pohjonen garnered rave reviews after making his third appearance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in February:

"Guest artist Juho Pohjonen, with his fingers seeming to barely touch the keys, then launched into a dizzying cadenza. He produced bubbly strings of sixteenth notes, ranging up and down the keyboard with an effortless technique... When Pohjonen finally stopped playing, it seemed like the perfect point for fulsome applause, but the initial movement of the concerto hadn’t even come to a close"
— Atlanta Journal Constitution

Pohjonen rounds out the season with a performance of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Piano Concerto with the Szczecin Philharmonic and Rune Bergmann in Poland. He plays chamber music in France, Sweden, Finland, Israel, London's Wigmore Hall and at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

This summer, he joins the Danish String Quartet at the Ravinia Festival and in Saratoga, NY, returns to the Santa Fe and Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festivals, Music@Menlo, La Jolla Summerfest and makes his Cleveland Orchestra debut with conductor Fabien Gabel.
