Smetana Trio Receive BBC Music Magazine Award

Congratulations to the Smetana Trio, winner of BBC Music Magazine's 2017 Chamber Award.

The Smetana Trio, founded in 1934 by the legendary Czech pianist Josef Pálenícek, violinist Alexandr Plocek, and cellist František Smetana, is today’s foremost Czech chamber ensemble.​ The trio is currently comprised of Jitka Cechová (piano), Jiří Vodička (violin), and Jan Pálenícek (cello).

​In addition to this year's Chamber Music Award, the Smetana Trio's release of the complete piano trios by Bohuslav Martinů ​received the Diapason d'Or award​, ​​was named BBC Music Magazine​​’s Recording of the Month​ in June 2016​, Recording of the Week​ in the Sunday Times, and a review from theArtsDesk.com stating, “This is the greatest chamber disc I’ve heard in ages, and I can’t imagine a better introduction to Martinů's music.”

This is the group's second time winning the BBC Music Magazine Chamber Music Award. The first was in 2007 for an all-Dvořák disc which also received the Diapason d'Or

In February 2018, Smetana Trio embark on a​ ​​tour of ten U.S.​ cities including New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, Durham, Orange County, and​​ ​San Diego, among others. ​
