Life, liberty and great tunes! Today’s concert was born in the USA, and every one of these pieces is packed with energy, ambition and melodies that are quite simply larger-than-life. But don’t just take our word for it. Guest conductor Robert Spano was born in Ohio, and whether it’s Gershwin’s young American dancing through jazz-age Paris, Copland’s cowboys celebrating the spirit of the Old West with the mother of all hoe-downs, or the heartfelt melodies and epic drama of Dvořák’s ever-popular New World symphony, he knows exactly how to capture that irrepressible spirit.
