Music Director Robert Spano welcomes Atlanta's cutting-edge dance troupe glo for a special performance in Symphony Hall.
First on the program, Ravel's ballet Mother Goose began life as a set of pieces for child pianists. In the wizard-like hands of its composer, the orchestrated version shimmers, transporting you into the magical realms of the innocent and the fantastic.
Jump pays homage to former Atlanta Symphony composer-in-residence Stephen Paulus. Fellow composer Robert Elhai, with permission of the Paulus family, is crafting a wholly new work drawing on the entire catalog of Paulus' music for inspiration. This follows the long ballet music tradition where one composer pays homage to an earlier composer. Respighi and Britten made ballets of Rossini's music and William Walton made a ballet from the music of Bach!
Choreography by Lauri Stallings for the artists of glo.
