CMS celebrates this distinctive voice with a one-of-a-kind program featuring violas in in every work, specifically, violists Matthew Lipman and Paul Neubauer. The repertoire ranges from Mozart’s celebrated C major String Quintet to seldom-heard gems rarely encountered in concert.

AN EVENING WITH BENJAMIN BEILMAN AND GLORIA CHIEN

Violinist Benjamin Beilman, celebrated for his golden tone and commanding artistry, is joined by pianist Gloria Chien for a program he curated, highlighting the violin’s versatility and its enduring dialogue with composers. “I’ve always been intrigued by the way violin virtuosos have shaped and inspired the composers who write for them,” said Beilman. The program features Franck’s monumental Sonata, written for Eugène Ysaÿe’s wedding (Beilman plays a 1740 Guarneri del Gesù violin that once belonged to Ysaÿe), and the New York premiere of Chris Rogerson’s work composed for Beilman’s own wedding. The concert aims to illuminate the deep connections between virtuosos and the music created for them.
