BACH CANTATAS
This year's Baroque vocal program showcases Bach’s unmatched gift for vocal writing in a selection of intimate cantatas performed by highly acclaimed vocalists from opera houses across the globe: soprano Joélle Harvey, tenor Paul Appleby, and baritone John Moore. The program includes Bach's only works with Italian texts and the ever-charming “Coffee Cantata” (Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht). In this miniature comic opera, a father’s futile attempt to cure his daughter’s love of coffee turns into a playful satire on both parental authority and Europe’s growing obsession with the fashionable new drink.
