MEET THE 2026 BMP: PRODUCER ACADEMY COHORT
Thirty early-career producers of theater, opera, dance and other innovative, multi-disciplinary and boundary-breaking projects

The BMP: Producer Academy is an 8.5-week virtual program that develops the next generation of leaders who will challenge and reshape the fields of theater, opera, dance and more

The 2026 BMP: Producer academy brings together a competitively selected cohort of 30 artists and producers for an 8.5-week all-virtual intensive in creative and tour producing for early-career producers of theater, opera, dance and other innovative, multi-disciplinary and boundary-breaking projects. The BMP: Producer Academy offers mentorship, networking opportunities, and weekly sessions on budgeting, touring, project pitching, and the creative and production processes to build and support the knowledge and personal growth of new and diverse producers for the performing arts.

Since its founding in 2021, the BMP: Producer Academy has served over 1,200 participants across 17 countries and remains deeply committed to creating an accessible and inclusive experience. We welcome and encourage applicants of all gender identities, racial and ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, and mental and physical abilities to apply.

BMP Director of Administration Alexis Peart, who is also a producer, arts administrator, opera singer, and music educator, says, “There is so much talent, curiosity, and generosity in this year’s BMP: Producer Academy cohort. Like the cohorts before them, these are artists and producers who are poised to shape where our field goes next. We’ve created a unique space where, over two months, the cohort exchanges ideas, deepens their producing practice, builds lasting relationships, and develops the tools to bring ambitious artistic visions to life.”

“This moment in the arts calls for creativity, collaboration, and new ways of thinking. BMP: Producer Academy brings together an incredible community of producers to dream big, learn from one another, and build what comes next. I’m so excited to see what grows out of this year’s cohort,” says Beth Morrison, BMP President & Creative Producer.

During the 8.5-week program, participants meet twice weekly to explore each phase of a production life cycle and hone concrete skills they can use to develop and produce new performance works. The program includes:

  • Curriculum Modules on the process of developing a project; budgeting & fundraising; touring; production design and technical theater; organizational and administrative structure; DEIA and the production process; and more

  • Two to three virtual sessions per week of cohort-style learning as well as homework assignments

  • Personalized mentorship from the BMP team, with opportunities to learn directly from Beth Morrison

  • Networking opportunities with professional producers and presenters in the industry

  • Feedback on pitch materials and projects by high-level industry presenters

"The BMP: Producer Academy is a community of hope, confidence and love for live arts. Attractive as it is to be trained in producing and touring cutting-edge performance, the real strength of this course lies in the hearts of its instructors and participants. We appreciate an intimate view of the fears inherent in bringing new ideas to the stage, and we experience first-hand examples of pushing through. There is a warmth and generosity from each guest instructor—people with major accomplishments to show. Simply being part of this group allows me to feel not only as if my ideas matter, but that it is imperative for me to do the gentle work to clarify and realize them.”
