Fung named Artist-in-Residence with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

BBT Fellowship Winner 2022 and current WQXR Artist Propulsion Lab participant Zlatomir Fung has been named the Artist-In-Residence of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2023-2024 season. Over the course of 8 performances, Fung will present 3 programs highlighting the versatility of the cello: Elgar Cello Concerto with Elena Schwarz, Haydn Cello Concerto No.1 in C Major with Shiyeon Sung, and Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No.1 with Emilia Hoving. Performances take place at London's Cadogan Hall as well as UK tours to Bristol, Hull, Warwick, Guildford and Northampton. For full program information, please click here
 

A 2020 recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the first American in four decades and youngest musician ever to win First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition Cello Division, Fung's upcoming summer includes debuts at the Cleveland Orchestra, Grant Park, and Newport Classical, where he performs all of the Bach Cello Suites at The Breakers. Festival highlights include Santa Fe, Domaine Forget, Chamber Music Northwest, Moritzburg, and Tsinandali.

In 2023/2024, he debuts with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Springs Philharmonic (performing Anna Clyne's Dance for Cello and Orchestra), Sarasota Orchestra, and Winnipeg Symphony, as well as the Rhode Island and Sacramento Philharmonics. Internationally, he tours to Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, and Japan, and gives the UK premiere of Katherine Balch's whisper concerto with the BBC Philharmonic, which he premiered in April 2023 with the Dallas Symphony and Gemma New, displaying "jaw-dropping brilliance." (Dallas Morning-News)

In the past two seasons, Fung has debuted with the New York Philharmonic, Detroit, Seattle, Milwaukee, Utah, Rochester, and Kansas City Symphonies. Internationally, he debuted with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and Orchestra National de Lille. Recent recital tours include Wigmore and Carnegie Hall debuts as well as Cal Berkeley, Philadelphia, Chicago, Orange County, and Vancouver, among others.
