America’s longest running summer chamber music festival, Music Mountain, concludes its 90th anniversary season on Sunday, September 22 at 3:00 pm with a special benefit concert for Music Mountain by the incomparable Juilliard String Quartet, which The Boston Globe called "plausibly... the most important American Quartet in history."  

The concert program features Beethoven's String Quartet in F Major, Op. 18 #1 (1799); 
Gyorgy Kurtag's 6 Moments Musicaux, Op. 44 (1999-2005); and Beethoven's String Quartet in C Sharp Minor, Op. 131 (1826).  

The Juilliard String Quartet continues to inspire audiences around the world with unparalleled artistry and enduring vigor. Founded in 1946, the Juilliard draws on a deep and vital engagement to the classics, while embracing the mission of championing new works – a vibrant combination of the familiar and the daring. Each performance of the Juilliard is a unique experience, bringing together the four members’ profound understanding, total commitment, and unceasing curiosity in sharing the wonders of the string quartet literature.

The members of the Quartet are Areta Zhulla, who joined as first violin this past season, Ronald Copes, violin, Roger Tapping, viola, and Astrid Schween, cello. Last season, the Juilliard's busy concert schedule included performances in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanhgahi, London, Oslo, Athens, Vancouver, Toronto and New York, with many return engagements all over the USA. 

The JSQ is string quartet in residence at Juilliard, and its members are all sought-after teachers on the string and chamber music faculties. Each May, they host the five-day internationally recognized Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, and during the summer, the JSQ works closely on string quartet repertoire with students at the Tanglewood Music Center.
