Bach, examining the creative synergy between the instrument’s earliest performers and composers.

LECTURE II: CLASSICAL MODELS AND ROMANTIC PERSPECTIVES
THU 2/19/26 • 6:30 PM
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center • Rose Studio at CMS
After the violin established instrumental dominance through the music of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, a generation of virtuosi in the second half of the 19th century, led by Wieniawski and Vieuxtemps, opened the eyes and ears of the public to a new realm of expressive potential and artistic projection for the violin. The great Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe inspired a new generation of virtuosi led by Kreisler, Elman, Heifetz, and many others. In this lecture, violinist Aaron Boyd explores the flowering of expression on the violin during this consequential period in Western music history.
