Midori, a Kennedy Center Honoree and United Nations Messenger for Peace, is one of the most outstanding violinists of our time. This season, she appears in recital and as a soloist with leading orchestras in the U.S. and around the world.
In the U.S., Midori premieres a newly commissioned work by Thierry Escaich on two recital tours, in February (Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City) and April (Palm Springs, CA and Troy, NY). Also in February, she performs Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn on an eight-city U.S. tour with Festival Strings Lucerne, with stops in Colorado, California, Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida. Midori’s U.S. orchestra appearances this season include performances of Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Grand Rapids Symphony (Michigan) on November 6 and the Portland Symphony Orchestra (Maine) on November 10.
Elsewhere, Midori premieres Detlev Glanert’s new concerto for two violins alongside Renaud Capuçon and the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig conducted by Semyon Bychkov (September 24 & 25) and with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz conducted by Jonathan Nott (March 5 in Linz, March 6 in Vienna). She performs Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra on a short European tour with conductor Manfred Honeck (October 10-16) and in Paris with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Bar Avni (February 3 & 4). In the spring, Midori appears on tour with Gidon Kremer’s Kremerata Baltica (May 18-26), premiering a new Suite for String Orchestra and Two Solo Violins, written by composers from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to celebrate Kremer’s 80th birthday. In January, her Tokyo performance celebrates Suntory Hall’s 40th anniversary season.
In August, Orchid Classics releases the world premiere recording of Derek Bermel’s violin concerto Spring Cadenzas, commissioned by Midori for her Orchestra Residencies Program and originally conceived to bring young musicians together remotely during the pandemic. In February, Midori records an album of Schubert Trios with pianist Jonathan Biss and cellist Antoine Lederlin, to be released on Orchid in the Fall 2027.
