Midori, a Kennedy Center Honoree and United Nations Messenger for Peace, is one of the most outstanding violinists of our time. This season, she appears in recital and as a soloist with leading orchestras in the U.S. and around the world.
Midori makes two appearances at Carnegie Hall this season. On October 23, she joins the Estonian Festival Orchestra with conductor Paavo Järvi for Arvo Pärt’s Tabula Rasa (alongside violinist Hans Christian Aavik), as part of an all-Pärt program in honor of the composer’s 90th birthday. On April 30, she returns to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and conductor Masaaki Suzuki. Other orchestra appearances in the U.S. this season include the Boston Symphony with conductor Nodoka Okisawa in Dvořák’s Violin Concerto (November 6-8).
In November, Midori performs the world premiere of Resonances of Spirit, for violin and electronics, written for her by the young New York-based violinist and composer Che Buford. The premiere is part of a recital tour with longtime collaborator pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute that includes stops at Stony Brook, New York, and Washington, DC. The program also features works by Beethoven, Poulenc, Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann and Schubert.
In addition to her U.S. appearances, Midori performs Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto Op. 64 with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and conductor Christoph Eschenbach in Denmark and Germany in August. She makes two appearances in London in September, in recital at Wigmore Hall and with the Royal Philharmonic and conductor Alexander Shelley in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. And in October, she performs Tabula Rasa with the Estonian Festival Orchestra on a European tour, as well as with Maestro Jarvi and the Gewandhaus Orchestra.
On October 5th, Midori is to receive the Pablo Casals Award at the Kronberg Festival in Germany in recognition of her commitment to social and educational projects. She also performs Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and Michael Sanderling that evening.
Midori joins Festival Strings Lucerne for a new recording this season of Robert Schuman’s Violin Concerto, 3 Romances, and 5 Stücke im Volkston (violin version) as well as Three Romances by Clara Schumann. The recording is set to be released odn PENTATONE in Spring 2026.
Midori is deeply committed to furthering humanitarian and educational goals and continues to be involved in the nonprofit organizations she founded. The New York City-based Midori & Friends, active for over three decades, offers accessible, tuition-free music education programs that have served over 330,000 students in NYC. Based in Japan, MUSIC SHARING brings both Western classical and traditional Japanese music to young people throughout Japan and developing areas of Asia. Through the Orchestra Residencies Program (ORP), which supports youth orchestras, Midori visits a different youth orchestra each season. Midori’s Partners in Performance (PiP) helps to bring chamber music to smaller communities in the U.S.
